I’m mostly using a clean Powerboost with the Hoof, so I’ve set the trim at about 1 o’clock for a bit more bite and saturation. This means that you can increase the gain for low output pickups and bedroom setups or roll down the gain for high output pickups and more aggressive boosters and amps. The “yellow label” also feature a trim pot (located on the circuit board), which allows you to adjust the resistance or amount of gain. However, pairing a Muff up with a booster evens out the frequencies and ultimately make the tubes and speakers produce more mid range and compression. This was very important for me because you can’t really add mid range to a ram’s head circuit without changing its tone. The pedal is very easy to setup and blends perfectly with boosters and overdrives. We’ve also rolled off the gain considerably, which resulted in much less fizzy overtones.
"What we did was essentially cutting the low end to eliminate most of the low frequency rumble. If you need a bass loaded wall-of-sound type Muff clone, the original (red-labeled) Pig Hoof is what you are looking for. Pig Hoof MkII is a sound variant to our well established Pig Hoof, which is a 70's Big Muff Ram's Head clone.ījorn Riis, the owner of the famous Gilmourian server, who is a happy Pig Hoof user, suggested development of a variant that would offer a limited lower end and gain. For the same money, you get a way smarter look, a steel, old-fashioned battery door on the bottom side, and removable rubber feet - so if you want to stick Velcro on the bottom, simply unscrew the feet. The graphics are silk-printed by hand on an aluminum plate and lacquered. Instead of the common aluminum enclosure, we will now provide you with a custom made, sturdy enclosure.
